No stone is left unturned on this sweeping global journey that explores the four corners of the globe. The epic voyage begins with an expansive six-week exploration of South America, rounding the southern tip and fully charting the continent’s western coast before continuing up to Mexico and California. From Brazil's iconic beaches to Patagonia's stark beauty and the immense cultural treasures of Peru, you will experience it all. Vista continues island-hopping in the dazzling South Pacific – think dreamy French Polynesia lagoons and far-flung archipelagoes like Vanuatu – and calling on unique Australian ports, such as Cairns and Darwin. Farther west, off-the-beaten-path secrets come to life in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and across India followed by the impressive cities and surreal dunes of the Arabian Peninsula. Perhaps it was when you were getting to know the locals on a tour of the city’s best markets or when you rose to the top of Sugarloaf Mountain in a cable car. Whether you lounge on a beach, amble through historic neighborhoods, or admire vistas from one of the peaks that rise thousands of feet over the metropolis, at day’s end you will be convinced that Rio ranks among the world’s great cities.

Fun and funky, Valparaíso is an exceptionally creative city. In addition to the colorful homes that climb the hills leading away from the port, you’ll see lots of bright street art, even in the historic quarter – a UNESCO World Heritage site. You’ll also notice the city’s iconic ascensores, funiculars built in the late 1800s and early 1900s to help residents make their way up and down the steep hills. Declared national monuments, some still function today. For a completely different flavor, visit nearby Viña del Mar for a more resort-like locale, or travel to Chile’s dynamic capital of Santiago, which is about two hours southeast.

In modern neighborhoods ranging from chic and upscale to hip and artsy, wander through galleries and sample the city’s celebrated cuisine. This laid-back approach to naming reflects the overall vibe here of going with the flow, probably because it is hard to get too wound up in paradise. Make your way inland to a coffee farm or check out Holualoa Village on the slopes of Mount Hualalai, where you can stroll through this quaint town to read historic markers and stop at one of the many art galleries, shops or cafés.
Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia

Only a few hours from the Outer Reef, Cairns is your gateway to this astounding UNESCO World Heritage site. But there’s also quite a party scene in Kuta, and the surfing is top-notch. For a special treat, hire a guide and visit the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, a gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage site that demonstrates how harmoniously man and nature can interact.

As a longtime trading port in southwest India, Cochin is used to receiving visitors from all over the world. Many flock to the coastal fishing grounds, famous for the large Chinese fishing nets that have been used for centuries. These cantilevered contraptions brought here ages ago by Chinese explorers have a mesmerizing up-and-down action that takes a fair amount of muscle to operate. You can join in if you want to test your arm strength, but be sure to negotiate your “tip” before you start. Cochin is also an aromatic city, known as a great place to pick up spices like yellow curry, black pepper, Ceylon cinnamon and dry chutney powders.

Hundreds of years of rule by North African Muslims left an indelible influence most gloriously witnessed at the Alhambra, a stunning palace complex built in the forested hills with snowcapped peaks rising as a backdrop. While the palace is Granada’s most famous attraction, getting lost amidst the winding medieval streets and stumbling upon grand cathedrals is likewise appealing. South of Granada, the port of Motril was a sugarcane capital, so you’ll want to try the local rum.

Isafjordur, Iceland

Iceland’s northwest territory is known as the Westfjords, a rugged area that is as beautiful as it is sparsely populated. Though there are only about 2,600 residents, Isafjordur is the largest town in the area and the cultural center, so it has the best variety of shopping and dining in the region. As the town was built around the fishing industry, you’ll want to try the local seafood, and Tjoruhusid restaurant is an institution. There’s no set menu, just a buffet of whatever is fresh from the sea served family-style at long tables.
