Playa Blanca, with its soft white sand and gentle waters, offers an ideal spot for a leisurely beach stroll or a relaxing afternoon in the sun. A visit to the nearby Jaragua National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, allows you to experience diverse wildlife, coastal lagoons and the striking limestone cliffs of Bahía de las Águilas, one of the country’s most beautiful beaches. Many visitors also explore the salt flats of Las Salinas, where the vibrant pink waters create a captivating natural spectacle. Seaside restaurants serve freshly caught seafood, offering the perfect opportunity to savor local flavors with panoramic ocean views.
  • Niigata, Japan

    Niigata, Japan

Located on the west coast of Honshu, Niigata is a prominent port city along the Shinano River. The Bandai Bridge, an iconic landmark, spans the river, connecting the seaport to the city center. The Niigata City Art Museum showcases modern Japanese art alongside notable works related to the local Niigata region. For those with an interest in botany, the Niigata Prefectural Botanical Garden offers a stunning variety of native Japanese flora within its beautifully landscaped grounds. The Niigata History Museum, housed in a former merchant’s residence, provides fascinating insight into the city’s role as a key trading port during the Edo period. Hakusan Jinja Shrine, a historic Shinto site dating back to the 14th century, offers a glimpse into the spiritual traditions of the region.
  • Wakayama, Japan

    Wakayama, Japan

Wakayama, a historic seaport on Japan’s Kansai coast, is home to several important landmarks. Wakayama Castle, originally built in the 16th century, stands as a key feature, offering panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. Many visitors head for nearby Mount Koya, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Mount Koya is known for its over 100 temples and sacred burial grounds, including the Okunoin Temple, a major center of Japanese Buddhism. The Wakayama area is also famous for its ume (plum) products, particularly umeboshi (pickled plums), which have significant cultural and historical ties to the region. About 50 minutes from the port lies the Tomb of Kii, connected to the imperial family and reflecting the area’s role in Japan’s political history, particularly during the Edo period.
  • Alofi, Nieu

    Alofi, Nieu

While most South Pacific islands are volcanically formed, far-flung Niue has the distinction of being one of the world’s largest raised coral atolls, an ancient coral reef pushed to the surface over eons. Due to its unique geological past, expect to see a variety of otherworldly formations carved out of the malleable rock, including secluded canyons and sea caves filled with crystalline pools. The coral reefs surrounding the island are very much alive, offering incredible experiences such as swimming with whales, an unforgettable encounter few places can deliver. Quaint Alofi, perched upon seaside cliffs and one of the world’s smallest capitals, has fewer than 1,000 residents but all the warmth of a Polynesian retreat.
  • Kanazawa, Japan

    Kanazawa, Japan

Kanazawa, while not widely known outside its home country, played a prominent role in Japan's history as the second most powerful shogunate during the momentous Edo period. As it was spared from WWII air raids, several of its historic districts remain largely intact, including the noteworthy Naga-machi samurai district, where these noble warriors once resided. Explore the exquisite Kenroku-en Garden, a beloved national treasure featuring plantings that ensure blooms throughout the growing season, interspersed with ponds, water features, bridges and postcard-worthy views around every turn of the path.
  • Vava’u (Neiafu), Tonga

    Vava’u (Neiafu), Tonga

The Vava’u Archipelago comprises dozens of islands, some so minuscule they are mere specks on the map. Admire this mesmerizing tableau from atop Mount Talau, a protected national park and a significant site in local lore. The sheer amount of unspoiled coastline draws in-the-know yachters, who weave in and out of sparkling bays and magnificent sea caves. Turquoise lagoons abound, beckoning with calm waters perfect for snorkeling or swimming, and they are often lined with immaculate beaches. The bustling town of Neiafu offers a snapshot of Tongan life, nowhere more so than amid the fresh fruits and enticing crafts displayed at the Utakalongalu Market.
